The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is renowned for its dissemination of cancer statistics worldwide. This is a core task of IARC’s Section of Cancer Surveillance (CSU) and centres around the systematic and ongoing collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of such statistical information on the global burden of the disease for cancer control action.
The Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) is a web-based platform by which to disseminate and visualize global cancer data in an efficient and systemized fashion.
The Cancer and Obesity website is part of the GCO and aims to provide estimates of the proportions and numbers of cancer cases attributable to excess body weight in 2012. The database also includes estimates of the potentially preventable cancer burden linked to excess body weight. This information can be accessed by cancer type, country, and sex.
